At all of our Milan Schools, safety is number one. We are committed to ensuring the best safety and security for our students and staff. We strongly feel that a safe and secure school helps to foster a good learning environment for our students.

Visitor Management

We welcome visitors to our schools. All of our buildings have a robust visitor management system. Each of the public entrances have a video and buzz-in system to help vet our visitors, while still maintaining a community friendly environment. Once in the buildings, visitors are required to sign in with a government issued photo ID. Additionally, each building has a student sign-in and sign-out system that allows us to maintain the integrity of each student who leaves during the school day.

Camera System

The camera system in use at all of our buildings is up to date and records activity both outside on our grounds and inside our buildings. This system enhances our level of security throughout the school.

Safety

Our staff is trained periodically and kept up dated on our safety response plans. We also have drills to ensure that the staff and students are familiar with our safety protocol. Milan School has staff members who are certified by the Indiana Department of Education as School Safety Specialists. A representative of the Milan administration team attends monthly county wide school safety meetings to maintain a positive communication with other Ripley County school safety stakeholders.

School Resource Officer (SRO)

The Milan School Corporation employs School Resource Officers who are certified police officers through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The officers are appointed and have full police powers from the Ripley County Sheriffs Office. Each officer is also specially trained as a School Resource Officer and is required to maintain all annual law enforcement training. Besides having duties related to law enforcement, they are mentors and informal counselors to our students. The play a vital role in safety and security throughout our buildings.
